The Gardens Trust: An Introduction to Garden History

The Gardens Trust, in association with the Garden Museum, is offering a new nine week INTRODUCTION TO GARDEN HISTORY course starting in October 2019. Full details are below and by clicking on the link to The Gardens Trust website. http://thegardenstrust.org/event/an-introduction-to-garden-history/

The course offers a chronological panorama of the development of garden history from medieval, Tudor and Elizabethan gardens through to the 20th century. The final lecture looks at the 21st century – tomorrow’s history in the making! The seven sessions will run once a week over nine weeks and will be delivered by well-known and distinguished speakers in their fields. The course is being held at the Garden Museum in London, so you will also have the opportunity to explore their collections and archive.


9 October: Medieval, Tudor and Elizabethan Gardens by Elisabeth Whittle

16 October: Seventeenth-century formal gardens by Stephen Smith

30 October: The English landscape garden by Dr David Jacques

6 November: Eighteenth-century town gardens by Dr Todd Longstaffe-Gowan

13 November: The Victorian garden by Dr Jane Bradney

27 November: Twentieth-century gardens by Dr Katie Campbell

4 December: Twenty-first century gardens by Tim Richardson

(Note that there are no lectures on 23 October or 20 November.)
